2008, Oslo, Norway. It was a cold frosty morning, when two bright-eyed youths named Stian and Njål, founded Filemail. Ok, being based in Oslo does mean there is a good chance that pretty much every morning is cold and frosty, but Filemail was also based on a problematic reality.
Trying to send large files using email was just not possible, it still isn’t possible. There were other solutions available that had inherent issues, which meant they were just not good enough.

Founding Of Filemail
There was a gap within which we placed Filemail, directly competing with alternative contemporary services like RapidShare. Users could finally share their files as easily as sending an email. Filemail offered a free, easy-to-use solution that didn't hinder users with annoying ads or waiting in line.
We made an instant impact in the industry, being recognized by PC World who awarded us “Product Of The Year 2008”.
2009
Introduction Of Our Premium Plan
In response to user demand, Filemail launched its first paid offering, our “Premium Plan” (later rebranded as “Professional Plan”). Users could now purchase extra storage and send much larger files.
Profitable
Less than 12 months after launch, Filemail achieved something of a rarity in the startup fraternity, profitability. There was no need to take outside funding, enabling us to stay true to our calling, which is to send your large files as quickly, and as hassle-free as possible.
2011
Stratospheric Growth
Filemail grew from strength to strength and achieved a notable milestone of having 3,000,000 users worldwide having sent files using our service. This underscored our commitment to our mission, the effectiveness of our solution, and our expanding global reach.

Filemail introduces a Business plan to accommodate growing interest. Further improvements are implemented such as releasing a native Windows app, and embracing encrypted data transfers.

Introduction Of Our Business Plan
In 2012 we launched our Business Plan, introducing multi-user multi-admin accounts enabling whole departments, on-site and remote teams, and other more tightly aligned collaborative endeavors to use Filemail together.
2013
Windows Desktop App Released
As file sizes increased, so did the need for faster transfer speeds. With this in mind, we released our Windows desktop app, bringing UDP transfer acceleration, previously limited to enterprises and those with deep pockets, to the less technically inclined. Users could finally use all their bandwidth and achieve previously unattainable transfer rates.
2014
Encrypted Data Transfers
At Filemail, the security, handling, and privacy of our users' files have always been paramount. For this reason, we eagerly adopted the capability to encrypt data transfers to and from users to the Filemail Cloud.

Filemail releases native apps for mobile devices such as iPhone and Android. We radically increase our global infrastrutuctre. Acquired by JottaCloud. Recognised in the industry by winning multiple awards.

We recognized the evolving needs of our users and the market, prompting us to introduce apps for Apple's iOS devices and Google's Android. This expansion provided more options for people to share files anytime and with anyone they chose.

Acquisition By JottaCloud
Filemail was acquired by JottaCloud, a reputable cloud storage company based in Norway. This resulted in Filemail benefitting from access to a broader selection of cloud infrastructure, and experts in file sharing and storage. The founders stayed on to demonstrate their utter dedication to Filemail and Filemail's customer base.
